When everyone sounds the same, your real voice becomes your biggest advantage.

Let’s be honest.

AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini have made it easier than ever to write well.

Everything now reads like it belongs in a TED Talk.
Or a poetry slam.
Or a manifesto you’ll never finish reading.

But something strange has happened along the way:

We’re starting to lose our voice.
Not our ability to speak—
but our ability to sound like ourselves.

That’s the beauty of live storytelling.

No filters.
No editing.
Just you, a mic, and a moment that either lands—or doesn’t.

And that’s what I love about the storytellers who step onstage at What’s Your Story Slam.

They’re not trying to sound impressive.
They’re not trying to hit keywords or optimise for engagement.

They’re telling real stories—with real voice.

So I got curious…

What makes these stories land?

What makes the room go quiet?

What makes the audience laugh, tear up, or vote?

It’s not the theme. It’s not even the structure.

It’s the voice.

And because AI is great at analysing patterns (and I’m not always great at documenting them), I ran transcripts of 11 WYSS storytellers through ChatGPT—not the scripts, but the actual transcripts from their performance.

Then I asked:
📣 What’s their voice?
What’s the tone? The flavour? The hidden pattern behind what makes them them?

The result?

A voiceprint of 11 unforgettable storytellers—each one distinct.

You’ll meet:

  • A matriarch with a punchline sharper than her eyeliner

  • A pilot with a stall horn trauma and the softest landing

  • A Gen Z rebel who prayed to play a princess and ended up playing Jesus

  • A dad who gives his daughter the shirt off his back (literally)

Each story is different.
But each one lands because the voice is real. Human. And impossible to fake.

🖤 Not all storytellers get a second mic drop.

This Tuesday (July 8), we’re doing something we only do once a year.

We’re bringing back the best of What’s Your Story Slam.
The ones who made us laugh, cry, and hold our breath.

It’s called Top Shelf—because these storytellers didn’t just show up.
They shook the room.
